About Us

Family-owned since 1985 and fully refurbished, we reopened in August 2021. Edward and Amie warmly welcome you to our village pub serving quality, honest food. Locally sourced and homemade wherever possible, including all our desserts.


Our drinks list is equally considered. You’ll find a full wine menu alongside draught continental beers, local ales from Wincle Beer Co and Whim Ales (Hartington), and traditional draught Bass, Staffordshire’s oldest and best known ale. We’re proud members of the Timothy Taylor’s Champion Club and have been for the past three years, an accolade they independently bestow for well kept ale.

Recent recognition includes Bronze at the 2025 Official Staffordshire Tourism Awards for Casual Dining, Pub of the Season from Staffordshire Moorlands CAMRA (Summer 2026), and our fourth consecutive TripAdvisor Travellers’ Choice Award.


We’re simply a village pub, the kind of place you can drop into for a casual drink or a hearty meal after walking the Roaches, equally you can dress up a little for a special occasion whether it be a celebration or meeting old friends. We welcome every kind of guest and every kind of occasion. From Summer 2026 we’re also taking group bookings and offering buffet-style events.


As the closest hospitality venue to the Roaches (from the French for “rock”), we provide free parking for walkers and dog-friendly areas so your four-legged friends are welcome too.


Table service is standard for all diners. Just check in at the front desk when you arrive and our team will look after you.

7th-23rd of September - Closed for routine maintenance

General opening times are Tuesday to Sunday from 12pm. The bar usually closes around 10pm for last orders (Tuesday to Thursday) then 10.30pm Friday & Saturday (9pm on Sundays) with a 30 minute drinking up period

NOTICE: Closed for Maintenance & Team Holidays

7th-23rd of September

Every September after the busy rush of summer we close for two weeks and have done so for years, allowing for a quick refresh of the pub allowing us to keep it looking at its best, at the same time our team get to have some much needed down time to recover from what is always a busy period. We shall be back open as usual on Thursday the 24th of September at 12pm. Same food & same team
