Family owned since 1985, the pub was fully refurbished & reopened in August 2021. Edward & Amie welcome you to our village pub where you shall find quality pub food, everything is locally sourced & home made where possible including all our desserts.
A wide array of drinks on offer including a full wine menu to draught continental beers, local ales from Wincle Beer Co, Whim Ales (Hartington), as well as draught BASS, Staffordshires oldest & probably best know ale besides Timothy Taylors Landlord to which we are in their coveted Champion Club. In April of 2026 we added Hawkstone premium lager to our bar, (yes the brewery owned by Jeremy Clarkson). We won pub of the season by Staffordshire Moorlands CAMRA - Summer 2026 & retained our Travellers Choice Award on Trip Advisor for the 4th year running.
Importantly to note, we don't claim to be anything other than a village pub, a place where you can come for a casual drink or quality pub meal as well as those more dressed up occasions, our venue suits all situations & attire. From Summer 2026 onwards we also now offer group bookings & Buffets style events
We are the closest hospitality venue to the 'Roaches' (french for 'rock') & offer free parking for anyone looking to go walking. With dog friendly areas for hikers & walkers you can also bring your four legged friend.
We offer table service as standard for all indoor diners so check in at the front desk upon arrival & our team will be more than happy to find you a table.
Open today | 12:00 – 17:00 |
General opening times are Tuesday to Sunday from 12pm. The bar usually closes around 10.30pm for last orders (9pm on Sundays) with a 30 minute drinking up period. Please Note: our hours can sometimes differ around bank holidays, we sometimes close on the Tuesday in leu of opening on the Monday.

7th-23rd of September
Every September after the busy rush of summer we close for two weeks and have done so for years, allowing for a quick refresh of the pub allowing us to keep it looking at its best, at the same time our team get to have some much needed down time to recover from what is always a busy period. We shall be back open as usual on Thursday the 24th of September at 12pm. Same food & same team
