Our Policies...
At the Rock Inn we have a few corner stones to which our whole business ethos has been founded....
ACCESSIBILITY
Everything started during our refurbishment, we wanted to ensure that our pub would be accessible to as many people as is possible, while recognising this is a listed building and therefore there are legal limits to what we can do. As a result we designed the whole layout to be on one level from at least once entrance/exit. This means anyone with walking restrictions or difficulties can gain unfettered access to every table in the building without encountering stairs or steep ramps. During the refurbishment we also added a Doc-M Complaint washroom with easy access next to our entrance and quick access tables nearby for those that need to travel as little as possible. as we offer table service this means customers won't have to travel to and from the bar area to obtain drinks, food or any other requests. All our staff are trained by management to look out for people in need and potential need of assistance, this could be people struggling to walk, sit, stand but also anyone that needs assistance reading the menu or even adjusting music levels should someone have hearing problems.
INCLUSIVITY
We accept and promote the benefits of having a diverse range of views & perspectives as this often leads to a better outcome. It is important that all our team as well as all customers feel comfortable enough to approach the management over any issue or topic at any point in time. This in turn allows for a better work environment thus leading to a higher amount of people applying for positions but also allows customers to view our pub as truly welcoming environment. We shall always remain a welcoming place for diversity of opinion. This also means encouraging customers & team members to share their views & opinions with others.
DISCRIMINATION
Discrimination can take many different forms; from age & sex to race & religion, we will not tolerate under any circumstances any form of discrimination here at the Rock Inn. All claims of discrimination will be taken extremely seriously. How something is perceived and not how something was intended is what matters, whether something was done or said as a joke or banter does not matter & will never be accepted.
SUSTAINABILITY
It is our long term goal to become as environmentally friendly as possible, this will forever remain a work in progress but huge leaps were made during our 2019-21 refurbishment. From more efficient cellar equipment to the latest kitchen appliances, replacing Gas with the latest induction technology as well as computer managed ovens we estimate we have reduced our carbon outlay dramatically compared to before our refurbishment. All lighting uses highly efficient LED technology, new devices such as hand dryers use high pressure cool air in place of heated air which produce the same results. All toilet facilities including taps & urinals are now sensor driven lowering our water usage by an estimated 30% in 2022 compared to pre 2019. On a raw basic level we have also shifted towards recycled napkins and all items such as straws are now biodegradable paper based as opposed to plastic products often found in the industry.
Part of the way we can reduce our footprint is to buy local, which is why all our suppliers are based within a 20 mile radius of the pub, this means it is both fresh and cost effective because it doesn't have to travel as far which lowers our suppliers footprint as well.
Food waste is a particular issue we feel we can stand tall on and proudly say we do our best. Everything here is freshly made in small batches using fresh raw ingredients which we get delivered weekly, our chefs produce enough food for a day or two at the most, this means the possibility of food being thrown away is dramatically reduced. Indeed by 2026 we estimate given our current trend that we will have reduced our food waste by near 50% due to food management, menu design & stock procurement. Any food waste that must be processed is done directly in partnership with Staffordshire Moorlands District Council Waste Services.
